Are both teletherapy or in-person office visits being offered?

Yes. I am offering phone and/or virtual sessions through a simple, no sign-up required, HIPPA compliant, site.

I also have an office in San Mateo in which I see clients in-person.

Do you accept insurance?

I am not affiliated with any insurance companies as an in-network provider. However, if you have a PPO plan, I can provide you with a monthly statement to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.  Many PPOs will reimburse a significant portion of the cost per session. Please call your insurance provider with questions about coverage and reimbursement rates for out-of-network providers.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FLEX, HSA, FSA, etc) through your employer can typically be used as pre-tax dollars to pay for therapy services.

Questions to ask your insurance company:

  • What are my mental health benefits?

  • How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?

  • How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?

  • Is there a deductible that must be met? How much of my annual deductible have I met?

What is your fee?

$225 per 50 minute individual session

$250 per 50 minute couple/family session

Sometimes initial assessment session or crisis sessions will last longer than 50 minutes and rates will be adjusted accordingly. Please inquire further about rates for longer sessions. Limited sliding fee appointment slots available based on financial need.

How long will therapy take?

The length of therapy depends entirely on the individual, couple, or family's needs and circumstances.   It can range anywhere from a few consultations about a specific concern to a longer and more in-depth process.  Sometimes clients conclude and then return to therapy periodically throughout the years as needed. After learning more about you and your reasons for seeking treatment, I may be able to provide you with a better idea of how long the therapy process will take.

Am I a good fit for therapy?

Generally, the components of successful therapy are the capacity to discuss feelings, the ability to tolerate some emotional discomfort, and the willingness to engage with the therapist in the endeavor of exploration and change.

What can I expect during my initial session?

The initial session is a time for you to learn about the process of therapy and to share information with your therapist about your concerns and goals for treatment.  Most importantly, it is an opportunity to determine if you feel that your therapist could be a good fit for you.  If for any reason you or your therapist to determine that the fit is not ideal, then appropriate referrals for other therapists in the community will gladly be provided.
